The House From Another Dimension

Lovecraft’s Witch house, Black Lodge, White Lodge, Cabins in the woods.

In many forest-horror stories, there is a cabin or a house. In normal life, the cabin in the woods is a shelter. In supernatural horror, it can be a trap or a place where horror happens. However, there are much more interesting possibilities. Sometimes it is not exactly clear if the house we see really exists. Or it is a place of weird experiences.

Houses in H. P. Lovecraft’s Short Stories

The cabin in the woods or the lodge is not the same as a haunted house. There are special places which are connected to another dimension. Lovecraft expressed this idea in the best possible way. There are two stories in particular which are among Lovecraft’s best pieces of writing: “Dreams In The Witch House” and “The Strange High House In The Mist”. In both stories, the hero experiences terror and the visions of the other world. There are elder gods, ancient gods and other creatures. But there is much more. It is a connection between our world and another dimension.

There is a very interesting concept of how that connection works. In “Dreams In The Witch House” Gilman, the narrator and hero of the story, think that the dimensions of his attic room are unusual “and seem to conform to a kind of unearthly geometry”. He assumes “that the structure can enable travel from one plane or dimension to another”. There is a certain similarity in “The Strange High House In The Mist”. The House is situated on top of a cliff. Then it is not clear how you can get to the house. The entrance seems to be on the seaside. The location of the Strange High House makes it very obvious that it is a border house. Of course, in a tale of H.P. Lovecraft, this is not only a border between the land and the sea. It is a border between the normal world and the realm of the other world.

Transition Zones

These type of houses are transition zones. It is like the zone in an airport if you are on an international flight and crossing borders. These transition zones are the place where two worlds overlap.

In the “Witch House” story, the narrator, Gilman, “begins experiencing bizarre dreams in which he seems to float without physical form through an otherworldly space of unearthly geometry and indescribable colors and sounds” (Wikipedia). The more detailed description of these dreams makes the story really extraordinary. It is a horror story. But the horror happens later. The elements Gilman sees sound more like something from the world of quantum mechanics or what happens in particle colliders on the one side. On the other side, it is like the platonic world of ideas: “Among the elements, both organic and inorganic, he perceives shapes that he innately recognizes as entities which appear and disappear instantaneously and at random”. There is more: “Several times, his dreaming-self encounters bizarre clusters of “iridescent, prolately spheroidal bubbles”, as well as a rapidly changing polyhedral-figure, both of which appear sapient” (Wikipedia).

There is one particularly interesting element: “entities which appear and disappear instantaneously”. This sounds very similar like UFO’s and it sounds like particles. In the world of quantum mechanics, we have these spontaneous appearances. It is also what would happen in a 5-dimensional world or in a place where you have two dimensions overlapping. Perhaps there is some sort of bilocation involved here too. Or these kind of “houses” from another dimension are keeping, doublegangers and trapped souls. They maybe look like houses but actually they are some form of container or field. In a way they are “storehouses of images” There is another very prominent example which takes Lovecraft’s ideas even further.

Black Lodge And White Lodge as mythical places.

The most prominent use of a house or cabin as a mystical place of transition is the black lodge and the white lodge in David Lynch’s series Twin Peaks. Agent Cooper is trapped for 25 years in the black lodge. It imprisons souls and it is a place of evil. A very interesting element is that it is an extra-dimensional location and also a portal. It’s not the same but there are conceptual similarities with Lovecraft’s Witch House and The High Strange House In The Mist.

Do these places really exist?

These things not only exist in literature and on TV. Like many elements, we find in fiction there are many stories from hikers or travellers. They claim to have seen houses or even rest stations which they couldn’t find later. It is not possible to find any proof if these stories are real. The distinction between the haunted house tradition and these ideas is the important thing. A haunted house is something which indeed exists in our plane of reality. The “Witch House” or “Houses from another dimension” might be something which looks like a house or a cabin but which is something completely different. As we know from many close UFO encounters “the phenomenon” is able to borrow our images, as researcher Jacques Valleé emphasized in an interview for the movie “Witness of another world”. Thus, these houses from another world could be something more like the Tudor style room which Astronaut Bowman sees in 2001. The cabin might be not a cabin but a complex simulation. The House from another place is an important element in The Forest Dark Story too. It adds to the level of cosmic horror.

Pulled Into Another Dimension

People who coincidentally shift to another dimension or person telling weird stories from experiencing the future or the past. And people who mysteriously vanished. Is it true or is does our mind play sometimes tricks? Nobody can seriously answer that question. Believers can come up with a sheer endless number of reports, incidents, and numberless witnesses. This seems a phenomenon that appeared at all times. Modern stories resemble myths and Old Testament stories. This doesn’t answer the question of what is really behind this phenomenon. However, we can grasp the pattern of these experiences and get a better idea about what it is.

Fantasy fiction describes the phenomenon in an archetypical way

Sometimes it is good to look into the tradition of film and literature. There is one book which is like a blueprint for this phenomenon. This is “The Wizard Of Oz”. Originally children book it also became a musical and a movie. The Wizard of Oz was a tremendous success. The book is a classic everybody knows. The 1939 film was one of the most successful movies ever made. There is a memorable scene in the beginning. A twister occurs and Dorothy is shifted into another reality. When this happens Dorothy sees very strange things, for example, the witch. This set-up is very typical for many fantasy stories since there an alternate reality in most of these stories (Alice in Wonderland etc). However here we have some key elements which are typical also for similar “real experiences”. In the first place, we have severe or strange weather which works as a sort of precursor. Secondly, our normal sense of what’s real or the laws of nature doesn’t have a place here. The heroine is shifted into a more dreamlike form of reality. Dorothy herself is in a sleepy state.

The Wizard Of Oz had a tremendous influence. We find many references in David Lynch’s movies and series. Wild At Heart might be the most prominent example. However also in the new Twin Peaks series, The Return, there are a couple of strong references. We see people vanishing or dragged into another dimension. There is a mysterious vortex which Gordon Cole sees and which later occurs again.

However, the most interesting question about The Wizard Of Oz’ memorable scene is why does it work so perfectly? It is a really weird moment, the girl in the house flying in the middle of a twister and ending up in a different dimension. Perhaps this is because this motive is already well established. A lot of people must be somehow familiar with the idea that you could be dragged into another dimension. Not exactly on a conscious level but on a deeper level, like some inherited memory. It sounds weird, but there must be some sort of preexisting fundamental experience that is alive as long as we are a child and which we forget later. Otherwise, you wouldn’t “buy the story.” It might have been an even more common experience in ancient times. Modern people often have lost that connection to what you call the invisible world. However, this kind of otherworld intrusion then happens in the weirdest fashion.

There is, of course, no true story behind the beginning of The Wizard Of Oz. However, there is a long tradition. We know about abduction stories in medieval times. In these times it was the elves stealing babies or performing abductions. There are also many out of body experiences in ancient scripture. They are often similar to modern-day alien abduction stories.

No real explanation

Many scientists tried to explain weird witness accounts of strange events. Since some people claimed they had been paralyzed during an abduction experience sleep paralysis became a common explanation. When you sleep your muscles are in some sort locked-in mode. Sometimes you wake up to earlier and there is some weird process in the brain. Things coming from dreams are mixed up with reality. However, this is not a sufficient explanation for many many cases. Sometimes the phenomenon is not only experienced by one person. Sometimes a person literally goes missing. Some people are never found. Others are found under weird circumstances in another place. There is no explanation of how they got there. Often they can’t remember what happened. Of course, there will be always some reports which were made up. But there is a sheer mass of extremely convincing stories. There are stunning detailed accounts of shifts into another dimension. One of the most impressive aspects is the credibility of the witnesses. They are mostly honest people overwhelmed by what has happened to them. In many cases, this is a life-changing experience. People who got lost or had an experience like an out of body experience, an abduction experience or found themselves in another dimension are never the same. There had been a very convincing documentary about this from Argentina: “Witness Of Another World”. The movie visits a now aged witness of a close encounter when he was 12 years old. This event had a compelling influence on his whole life. It took him a very long time to cope with what hat happened to him. Even if we don’t have the answer to what is really going on we should treat them with the greatest respect. We do know some things for certain: 1) This phenomenon goes a long way back – the beginning of the fictional Story The Wizard Of Oz is like a model, an archetype for this phenomenon. 2) It happens a lot. 3) There is a pattern or typical elements involved.

Repeating patterns

It is very interesting that these strange things happen in regions where orbs of light occur. In many cases, there is a series of UFO-sightings before other strange events occur.

Weather and uncommon weather patterns seem to play an important role. It is important that these are often weather phenomena which are not possible in the normal sense of how weather works. Sudden rain on a clear day. A thunderstorm out of nowhere. A mist suddenly occurring. Strange weather phenomena and light orbs seem to be precursors of a beginning opening of a portal between dimensions.

Witnesses who experience an episode where they are in another dimension report often similar things. As in a dream they weren’t exactly frightened. The reality they experienced was somehow different but it was not the other world like another planet.

There is often a loss of time. The witness can’t explain what exactly happened during that time

It is often a life-shattering event. People are not the same after such an experience.

Fiction and Facts are coming closer together

It is still surprising to see how stories that were created as fiction seem to become something that also exists in reality. This applies to many Sci-Fi stories. The idea of portals and alternate dimensions is getting more and more present in science. There is now tremendous and excellent research done about missing cases by experts as David Paulides which is also a big hope for people experiencing strange and unexplainable events in their life. They deserve more attention and understanding. There is really something going on out there. It’s really big and it is still beyond our comprehension. But slowly the picture forms. We might stand in the doorstep of a new world view.

Series Of Mysterious Events And Dimensional Rifts

One of the best moments in John Carpenter’s legendary horror movie THE FOG is the set-up. It is in the middle of the night.  A group of children hear a campfire tale. Antonio Bay sleeps. Then a series of paranormal events happen in a short time frame. Car honks. Lights are switched on automatically. A petrol cock falls to the floor, etc. The tension rises. The Fog is fiction. There are real cases too.

We know about many situations where there was not only a single sighting or some sort of unexplainable event but a lot of things happen within a short time span. The real stories sound even more fantastic as fiction stories in books and films.

It seems that a series of paranormal events is a common thing. Things happen simultaneously. Sometimes it is a very different kind of phenomenon happen at the same time (within hours or a few days).

Synchronicity

It adds to the high strangeness of these cases: Sometimes a mysterious vanishing is connected with a weird weather event. Ufo sightings are connected with sightings of mythical creatures. Clocks stop without explanation. Cars stop by themselves. The same time a sighting is reported they find later animal mutilations. There are really amazing coincidences here. Dreams play an important role. They happen to people who maybe not the victims or the witness of a close encounter. But they dream what happens to somebody else. Weird “glitches in reality” happen at the same time as accidents. Strangers or “Men in Black” are reported at the same moment somebody sees orbs of light. There is also a term for strange things happen at the same time. Psychologist C. G. Jung labelled it synchronicity.




It is the same with religious wonders. The events of Fatima are a whole series of miracles and strange events. A well-known series of paranormal events are the Happy Camp Events in California. These series of strange events are often connected with a certain place like the Skinwalker Ranch. This ranch seems to be like a real theme park of the paranormal. There was a huge sized wolf, light orbs, cattle mutilations, ufos.

Seismic activity

The reports of researchers appear often a bit like the descriptions of a volcanologist. These scientists do research about a seismic activity or – an outbreak. It seems there is a kind of similarity here.

It is also interesting that a series of paranormal events in a certain region occur in certain periods, for example, every 30years or so (an example is the Bennington triangle). This is another parallel with phenomena in nature. There is a rhythm.

Perhaps these different strange mysterious events are belonging to one phenomenon. It is a phenomenon that is connected to certain places or areas. And it is a phenomenon which repeats itself periodically. There are times of less activity or stronger activity. This is, for example, the case for the Hessdalen Lights phenomenon in Norway.

What is it? It appears a bit like a mechanism or like seismic activity or some sort of force of nature but one which is intelligible. Paranormal phenomena are often said to be connected with “portals.”

“Paranormal Plate Tectonics?”

A dimensional rift might be an interesting option to consider. Perhaps there is something similar to plate tectonics. What if we are caught in the middle of overlapping dimensions? We can’t know because we can only assume that there are higher dimensions populated with otherworldly entities. But a dimensional rift which is created when dimensions overlap or a rift which opens and closes at certain times would make some sense.

If we think of our world being a Matrix as in the famous movie franchise, simultaneous events could also be created by “reprogramming”. If somebody lives in a 3D virtual world but doesn’t know it is a virtual reality, any change of that matrix would appear as a wonder or mysterious event.

Maybe these alternative dimensions are different creations of reality. Then both models make sense. We don’t know what’s really going on. However, we can get a feeling for these kinds of development.

Atmospheres

There is only a little percentage of people who become witnesses of mysterious events as close encounters or poltergeist phenomena. But there is a chance to train awareness for little shifts in reality. It is a bit like the changes in the weather. Suddenly there is a different atmosphere. Something is odd. And it is not always the weather. It is like the colours somehow appear different, the air feels different. It is like things working a bit different. Of course, this is always the individuals’ perceptions. But sometimes a lot of people feel the same way: Something is not right. Perhaps there are indeed many dimensions, which are more or less similar with little difference but we drift from one plane of reality to the next plane without being aware of it.

Portals

Portals are very common in science-fiction and fantasy. There is even a preset in a compositing software for an interdimensional portal. They are a popular explanation for paranormal phenomena. Portals can be many things. Popular examples are wormholes connecting distant places. They are doors into the unknown. Most of all they question our idea of reality. Portals suggest that reality is not what it seems.

For a long time portals were only an idea both in fiction and scientific theories. Then NASA found them – in some way. NASA discovered so-called X-points connecting Earth directly with the upper atmosphere of the sun. According to NASA, they are “Mingling lines of magnetic force from the sun and Earth criss-cross and join to create the openings. “X-points” are where the criss-cross takes place. The sudden joining of magnetic fields can propel jets of charged particles from the X-point, creating an “electron diffusion region.” But what do these portals? What are the effects? The scientists say that portals can heat the upper atmosphere or create impressing auroras.




The X points of NASA are electromagnetic portals which still exist in our known realm of science. If they exist there is a good chance that there are other portals out there as shortcuts or opening to other dimensions. If we think of the portal to explain unknown phenomena like the Bennington triangle we can use the known portals like the X points as a model.

The effect of interdimensional portals

Thus, we should think again what a portal does? It is a door, but also a gateway. It has a certain effect. Subsequently, a traveller from another place could visit our place, our neighbourhood, our dimension. Vice versa somebody entering a portal from our side could travel to another place, another dimension, perhaps a different time. Portals are often mentioned in connection with mysterious vanishings. Some people think portals could be an explanation for the missing 411 cases.

Portals as displays

Portals are not only shortcuts and “black holes” where something can vanish without a trace. They seem to appear as reality shifters. Portals seem to change the normal world in certain places. They might be behind certain Ufo-sightings and supernatural phenomena. We know about many areas where not only people disappear or there are sightings but where everything seems “wrong”. There is something wrong with time, there are disturbances in gravity and any kind of spooky things happen. Skinwalker Ranch is an example as a place where many weird things happen at the same time. The same applies obviously to Glastenbury. This is also what the forest dark is: In these haunted areas everything is different. Here, our ordinary reality is a mask and some uncanny otherworld is the real face. This suggests that portals could work as a kind of display, like a TV-screen showing us glimpses of another world. However, unlike our TV-set the other world is not really separated. It is a display which connects directly with our realm. Maybe it is more like a holo-deck. Of course, it is difficult to prove this kind of portals. The problem at the bottom is our ability to understand portals. It is a bit like cat and dogs watching TV. They do actually watch TV. Obviously they only have a different interpretation of the display. Cats sometimes look at what is behind the TV-set.

The zones are the portals

We often hear that there are portals within the well-known zones like the Bridgewater Triangle (Free-Town Fall River State Forest). For example, a witness in the excellent documentary based on David Paulides 411 missing cases of hunters said that he even heard something like a giant steel-trap. Thus, there is a tendency to think that this might be hidden doors in a certain place. However, if we look at the whole picture we see that we have certain places or regions which appear somehow disconnected from ordinary reality in some way. We hear about the same constellation of phenomena. Often there are light orbs, sightings of monsters and mysterious vanishings. This is like one giant glitch in the matrix. Perhaps it is more accurate to think of these zones as the portal. We don’t need to search for the portal in a zone because the zone itself is the portal. Of course, this is a theory – perhaps fiction. But if we remember the definition of the NASA discovery of the X point portal this idea makes some sense: The portal creates a tunnel where particles from the sun have an effect (heating up the upper atmosphere, geo storms etc.). Now, what if we have portals opening a gate for other particles or even entities? They could create any kind of effect – something which we see as a supernatural phenomenon or even influence human behaviour. We know that the Free-Town Fall River State Forest has a sad history of crime. Even it is wild speculation, it is worth to think why certain places have such a high crime rate. Maybe one day we will discover an influence we haven’t thought of in our wildest dreams. There is an interesting observation in the collection of the missing 411 cases about mysterious vanishings in the forest: It happened in places where there is no wildlife. Animals, as we know, have a very good instinct.
